What is the Grey List?
I occasionally write articles and things that don't really fit with my goal for nickheer.com, and therefore don't belong in the main stream of posts. They are posts that use a different design, are typeset in Helvetica Neue and have no nickheer.com branding (aside from a small link in the footer). This is an alphabetical index of those posts.
Apple.com's Awful Buy Buttons
A friend of mine and I noticed that Apple.com has had some horrendous Buy buttons for most of its history. External link.
CIBC Phishing Attempt
I attempted to report a phishing attempt to the fraud division of CIBC, which backfired badly.
Since I fully complied with their removal request (despite how unnecessary it was), I anticipated the matter would go away. I was wrong.
Differences in Global Versions of Apple's iPad Features Page
There are some curious differences between the iPad "Features" page on Apple's website, depending on whether you browse from the US, UK, or Canada.
Fundie Speak
Chatting with some fundamentalist lunatic who believes that cursing is a sign of a brain tumour, amongst other idiotic assumptions.
Again, his entire argument rests on his assertion that swearing is a problem, or that it is something to avoid. Yet he hasn't shown any evidence for why he believes this, aside from quoting scripture which, frankly, isn't a good enough argument for me. Telling an atheist to stop doing something because otherwise they'll go to hell is pretty stupid for obvious reasons.
Genius Bar Encounters
I am attempting to log my experience every time I visit a Genius Bar.
My iPhone 4 displayed the "No SIM" error, despite a SIM card being correctly installed. Genius Bar tech Jamie replaced the phone for free, on-the-spot.
Music
My favourite records.
These are the best albums ever. If you think one of these choices isn't, you're wrong. This isn't a complete list of every best album, though.
Unsubscribing from Geni.com
Geni.com is a family tree website, and at the time of writing this post, it was an extraordinary pain to unsubscribe from.
The site sends around five emails each day giving updates on what's going on with your extended family. After daily deletion, I finally decided I should just unsubscribe from geni.com. I soon found out this was easier said than done.
