[...] make it absolutely clear, before I begin to tear modern pop music apart, that I am not one of those indie hipsters, who can’t stand to listen to anything in the Billboard Top 200 for fear of appearing uncool, [...]

This is what I've been saying to people with such "tastes" for years yet I've never been as able to put it as well as this post.
So depressingly true, yet fortunately, I for one am making a concerted effort to listen to what the hell I like, purely because I like it.
I don't care whether it's embarassing, I certainly don't care whether it's indie.
Pretty much all of the music I listen to, and I am not going to squeeze into some super-skinny jeans, get a frankly ridiculous haircut, and I am not going to start wearing v-neck t-shirts where the v comes down to my naval, all in order to be considered cool or hip.

Unfortunately, when you confront most of these people about their "taste" in music, you end up being the ridiculous one because they just spout some band names you've never heard of, thus to them they are more knowledgable about music and nobody can tell them any different.

It does irritate me, but I just keep reminding myself that it's a phase, and one that will hopefully soon be over.
